Open Communication Leads to Good Relationships
Open communication is the foundation of most meaningful relationships. Listening, comforting and discussing sensitive issues are extremely important.
Open communication is absolutely essential for a successful relationship. A lack of communication can lead to disastrous misunderstandings, annoyance and even break-ups. So how can partners improve their communication skills?
Make it a point to clearly understand what your partner is trying to tell you. If your partner makes a statement that is unclear, make sure that you have him or her clarify. Miscommunication can lead to larger problems. Secondly, do not disregard anything your partner says. If you catch a quiet side comment, recognize it and respond.
While you must listen closely and clearly understand what your partner is telling you, it is important to respond just as clearly. Someone who mumbles or fails to converse is simply frustrating and, eventually, the partner will become fed up and annoyed. Be sure to speak directly and audibly.
Relationships become more substantial when partners open up to one another. Open communication does not make men pansies or women pathetic and sappy, though your friends may try to tell you otherwise. Opening up to one another brings relationships to the next level and makes interactions more satisfying and deep. Sometimes it is difficult to open up and talk about sensitive issues. Every time such an issue is addressed, however, both parties will feel better about it. Don't be afraid to be the one to initiate the discussion or share deep feelings. Once one partner opens up, the other may follow.
